Happy first day of April! April is Poetry Month! Here in the library I am celebrating with a display case on Poetry month outside the library and with a Poem-a-Day email for the month of April. I signed up for it here: http://www.poets.org/poemADay.php. I'll try print out the poem of the day to put up in the display case to share with everyone. All the poetry books are pulled out on a special cart for easy access and use for Gr. 8 girls who will be coming to the library to do some work with poetry. For the first day of Poetry Month I put up this poem in the display case:
MY LIBRARY
by Varda One
It's only a room with shelves and books,
but it's far more magical than it looks
It's a jet on which I soar
to lands that exist no more.
Or a key with which I find
answers to questions crowding my mind.
Building my habit of learning and growing,
asking and researching till I reach knowing.
Here, I've been a mermaid and an elf
I've even learned to be more myself.
I think that I shall never see
a place that's been more useful to me.
With encouraging kind friends with wit
Who tell me to dream big and never quit.
It's only a room with shelves and books,
but it's far more magical than it looks.
