*** ATTENTION!! ***

This week will be your LAST CHANCE to return or renew your overdue items before the rate increase on May 1st. Please come to the library if you cannot find the items that are checked out to you so we can mark them as “lost” to prevent fines from adding up. For example: if you have a $10 book that is overdue and your estimated fines are $5, if you check in the book after May 1st your new fine estimate will be $25.
If anyone has not accessed their account yet, please see the instructions posted on the library door or come ask me how.
Meet Bryan Davis!!

On May 1st at the House of James you will have an opportunity to meet Bryan Davis, author of the series: Dragons in our Midst, Oracles of Fire, and Echoes from the Edge. Hear about his new series Dragons of Starlight and get a signed copy of Starlighter! (the first book in the new series)
*Registration Deadline is: Thursday, April 29th at 5:00pm*
Have a great week everyone!

What's Happening in the Library

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to get back into the swing of things for another week (my second last!!:(
This week with Grade 8 and Grade 7 classes we will be covering how to do subject and keyword searches in the catalogue and do some practice of those searches. With Grade 6 classes we will look at the library blog (because I haven't shown it to them yet if you can believe it) and do a scavenger hunt on the blog.
We printed out quite the overdue list here in the library this morning... please check if your name is on the list and take care of any outstanding books and fines. Fines are collecting each day your books are overdue, so return them on time to avoid those pesky library fines!

What's Happening in the Library

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great Christmas holiday! I sure did, I stayed very busy getting ready for my baby, and I realized yesterday, I didn't even finish one book over the holidays!
So to remind you once again, all books that were signed out in the two weeks before holidays are due TODAY!! Don't forget to stop by and return them, or renew any books you still want out. Please look at the overdue list on the library window as well and see if you have any overdues, there is quite a list.
This week in the library we will be taking things easy to get back into the swing of things by playing one of our new library games: this week, Library Lingo, for all grades. Have a great week back, and Happy New Year!

What's Happening in the Library

It's starting to feel like Christmas! The snow just makes everything look more festive. I hope everyone enjoys this last week before the Christmas holidays. I know I am looking forward to a fun afternoon on Friday when we have Elf Olympics!
This week in the library, I will hopefully be finishing the Eric Wilson novels with some classes. For the rest of the classes we will be doing a fun Christmas activity.
Don't forget to take care of any outstanding library items this week before we are off for two weeks. Also a reminder again that all books signed out over the holidays are due Monday, January 4 when we get back to school. And if you are looking forward to spending a lot of time reading over the holidays, feel free to come by the library and stock up with 10 books for the holidays!
Have a great week!

What's Happening in the Library

Only two more weeks until Christmas break! How exciting! This also means that starting today, any books checked out or renewed over the next two weeks will be not be due until after the holidays. Every item checked out will be due Jan. 4, 2010, the day when we get back from holidays. So don't forget to put your library books in your bag before coming back to school in January, and make a point of stopping by the library that first day to return your items or renew (and say hi to the new librarian who will be having her first day while you are at it!) Students are also permitted to take twice as many books out over the holidays, so that is an added bonus, but it means you could possibly have twice as many library fines, so please keep in mind, all items will be due our first day back.
This week in the library, some classes will continue reading the Eric Wilson book outloud, only a few more chapters to go! Other classes will be doing the blog scavenger hunt if they didn't get to do it last week. For the rest of the classes I hope to book talk some great reads for the holidays.

It's that time of year!

It's hard to believe but we are almost at the end of the school year! Along with looking forward to a break and summer holidays there are a number of things to finish off and take care of. One of those things is getting all those textbooks and library items returned and all fines paid off. Just to get you thinking ahead, here is a list of upcoming important dates.

First week of June-Overdue notices handed out in homerooms listing fines.

June 5-Last day of library circulation. All books must be in at this time, and no more library books will be signed out for the rest of the year.

June 12-Most textbooks should be returned by this time. Letters will be mailed home showing which items are still checked out.

June 17-Official textbook due date.

June 18-All textbooks must be returned!

June 19-Last day of school!

Please keep in mind that any outstanding materials OR fines will prevent you from being able to get your yearbook! Make sure you take care of all your materials and fines as soon as possible so you can get your yearbook when everyone else does. If you have books that are missing right now, start searching!

Books are Due!

Just a reminder! Books that were checked out over spring break were due yesterday! Don't wait until your library day to bring them back! That will make them late! The library is open before school and after school and at lunch, so make some time to stop by the library and drop them in the bin. Thanks! and I hope you enjoyed those spring break reads as much as I did mine!
